Read ten pages without turning reading into homework

Use a small quantity as a starting point, not a target you must catch up on.

Ten pages can be an invitation to open a book, but they do not represent the same time in every title. A spacious novel and a dense essay ask for different effort. Treat the quantity as a flexible guide. You can stop sooner, continue or replace the page count with a short available period.

Keep one current book where you naturally read. If you must find it, move several objects and locate a bookmark, beginning already requires several decisions. Simply prepare the book and suitable light. You do not need to arrange another room or buy a tracking notebook to start.

Choose a moment that already exists

Connect reading to an existing transition: after lunch, before going out or when the home becomes quieter. Avoid a time when you are always hurried. Try it for several days and change it if the slot does not suit your routine. The difficulty may be the timing rather than a lack of determination.

If the book no longer interests you, consider why. A difficult passage may deserve another attempt; a book that does not suit you can be abandoned or left for later. Finishing every book you begin is not a condition of regular reading. A library lets you experiment without immediately accumulating purchases.

Do not add up missed pages. An evening without reading does not create a twenty-page debt tomorrow. Resume where the bookmark waits. If you enjoy recording progress, a date after a session may be enough; a detailed chart is useful only if you genuinely like it.

After two weeks, notice what made opening the book easier: its location, the title, the time or the absence of a phone beside it. Keep that element. The page count can disappear when you no longer need it. The guide has done its job when it helps you read, not when it becomes the main subject of reading. Let the book itself determine whether you stay for another chapter.
